Mike + Nikki - Engagement session
Mike is a typical guy. He wanted absolutely nothing to do with a photo shoot. I believe his first words upon starting the session were, "As long as we can get this over with quick, I'll be happy." Ha. If I had a dollar for every time I heard those words.
If that wasn't bad enough, I had to drag these two back for a second session on one of the hottest evenings of the year thus far. The heat index was still 110 degrees at 7:30 p.m. It was anything but cool. Luckily, they only had to deal with it for about 15 minutes and we were done.
I just love these two! I've known them both for years and am thrilled Mike finally proposed....FINALLY! I cannot emphasize finally enough ;) Hehehe.
Here are a few shots from their engagement session. The big day is Aug. 13th.
BLAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! These jerseys make me cringe. GO IRISH!!!! Booooo Michigan!!

Morgan - 2012 Senior
From a swamp pit, to boots and belts, to bare feet in a dress. Morgan's senior session was so-much-fun!
We traveled the back roads of Southwest Lower Michigan for most of her session, and ended with a beautiful sunset on Lake Michigan. A with all of my clients, she rocked it!

Madelyn - Maternity session
I absolutely love shooting mama's to be. There's just something so calm about them. Ok, I'm sure a lot of soon to be mother's are saying "CALM???? EXCUSE ME???? There's nothing calm about me right now!!!" Which I know is very true. So let me rephrase, during a maternity session, there is something so calm and peaceful about women who are expecting. I can't really explain it, but I see and sense it. They have a natural glow to them and they seem so at ease in the moment. It's just a picture perfect time (cheesy comment, I know), but it's the truth.
Madelyn, you are gorgeous when you're not pregnant, and I think being pregnant adds even more gorgeousness to you. I'm so proud of you and cannot wait to meet your new little bundle of joy.
I don't care what she says, I DID NOT make her climb this fence, nor did I mention it ! She told me she could "easily clear it" and I advised her that it was absolutely not a good idea!! So we shot in front of it :)
We walked through grass that was about 5-feet tall to get this shot. Well worth it, I must say!
I stole this love sign from her house. As soon as I spotted it on the wall, I knew I had to take it with!

Monica - 2012 Senior Rep
I am sooooo excited to show off my 2012 high school senior rep.
I first met Monica back in April, when I did her family's portrait. I had no idea she was an upcoming senior at the time, but once I found out, I knew she had to be my rep. Bottom line - she's not afraid to be in front of the camera. Seriously, I didn't have to give her any direction whatsoever. I picked the places to shoot and the rest really was all her. I'm still not quite sure why this girl isn't into modeling yet.
For Monica's session, we shot at three different locations. I got permission from a friend of mine to shoot at his family's farm, which was followed by us roaming around a local antique mall. A few weeks later, we headed up to Lake Michigan for her final location.
Monica - I really cannot thank you enough. You are exactly what I was looking for in a rep. You're gorgeous girl! And I also found out we both share a love for old vintage cameras (and you better believe we were eyeballing some vintage cameras at the antique mall!!)
I could have posted 50+ images from her session on here, but to make things more simple, I threw together a slide show of some of her images. It's under the three pictures I posted below. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I enjoyed photographing her.

Relay For Life
It's a fact that every single one of us has been affected by cancer in one way shape or form. Whether it was a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a cousin, niece or nephew, a sibling, a parent, or you. I know I have. I've known several people along the way who have been hit by the illness we all hope and pray we one day do not have to deal with.
My grandmother had it, my grandfather had it, both of my step-grandparents had it or are dealing with it now, my uncle had it, and my own step mother (she despises that word, so in my family we say other mother), had it. Thankfully, most of them fought through the long days and are here today to tell their stories. Unfortunately, some of them are not with us anymore.
If you have never experienced a Relay For Life event, I highly recommend you do so. This is one of the most inspiring events I go to each year, and it really makes you feel whole knowing you're doing something to make a difference. This is actually the first year my dad and I participated as actual walkers. Usually, we're behind the DJ booth, but since dad retired last year, he handed down the throne. We both saw Relay in a completely different light this year.
Here are a few images from this year's Relay, which was held July 9th and 10th at Niles High School. Please, if you get the chance, attend next year's event. Not only will you be raising money for one of the best causes in this country, but you will walk away with a whole new outlook on life. Trust me!
The faces of the Survivors
My father, "other mother"(who beat breast cancer) and me.
Relay is super kid friendly, with plenty of events for the kiddos throughout the day and night!
Darin, who is the manager of the Recruiting department at Express-1, the company I work for, taking his walk around the track. He organized this year's Relay for our company and plans to do so for years to come.
Michelle making our glow sticks sign. We sold glow sticks for $2, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, of course!
I made a new friend!
The luminary event is one of the most touching events of the day. At nightfall, luminary bags are lit in honor of those who lost their battle. The bag on the left is in honor of my grandmother, whom I never met. She lost her battle with lung cancer when my dad was just 13. The bag on the right is in honor of Johnny Brawley, "The Fighting Toad," who lost his battle last year. Johnny was also an employee at Express-1.
